LACK Of The Planning For The Work

Suppose you have an experienced team of IT professionals that has done similar work a number of times. One could ask, “Why should time be spent planning the work? Why not get on with the work?” The project or work may be under severe time pressure. Planning time could be spent in work time.
The same could be said for experienced Boy Scouts. What happens when they don’t plan? They may forget some items. They may be unprepared for a change in the weather. Some could get sidetracked. Planning Considerations

At the very minimum a project plan must answer these three questions:

What is to be done?

When should it be done?

Who should do it?

The project plan generally starts taking shape as soon as a project manager is assigned to the project. The project manager will have some idea of what is required from the scope statement, contract documents if it is an external project, or any information gleaned from those who selected the project or directed that it be done. If the project manager was fortunate enough to have been included in the embryonic stage of the project, then she is way ahead of the learning curve. Characteristics of the Successful Project Manager

To some degree, it is unfortunate that those who run projects are referred to as managers because there is so much involved in being a truly excellent project manager.

Almost all project literature will list the following as, at least, the core and most important characteristics of a project manager:

Leadership
Communication skills
Negotiating skills
Problem-solving skills
Ability to influence the organization
Credibility
Ethical behavior
